The Media Launch for the CWWA 28th Annual Conference and Exhibition took place on 13th August 2019 at the St. Kitts Marriot Resort Hotel. The launch was attended by Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, representatives of the St. Kitts Information Services Division, Water and Waste Departments, corporate entities and the Media.
The Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development and Transport the Hon. Ian Liburd, declared the Conference officially on course for the period 14-18 October 2019. He also expressed the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ full support for the initiative. Speeches were also delivered by:
- Spencer Brand, Minister responsible for Physical Planning, the Environment and Water, Nevis Island Administration
- Mark Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation
- Mark Barnett, CWWA President
A number of issues that are pertinent to the water, wastewater, and solid waste management sectors were also highlighted during the launch, namely drought and water security, the prevailing impact of wastewater on water resources, the need for action to mitigate and/or adapt to the effects of climate change and non-traditional interventions / innovations in the sector. Attendees were also briefed on the structure of the conference.
In keeping with this year’s conference theme, financing of the water and waste sectors, their challenges and opportunities were also discussed.
